Experiences to Stay Sane-At-Home

Wait, is this Week Five or Six of the Lock Down, Quarantine or Circuit Breaker?

Whatever the date, the more time we spend in self-isolation, the closer it seems we are to driving ourselves crazy.  Routines and Rituals will help keep you sane.  Between your endless zoom meetings and meal deliveries, be kind to yourself and schedule in a bit of #selfcare as you mind your mental wellbeing.

Here’s our pick of great online digital content and experiences to keep your Mind, Body and Soul in check:

FOR A CLEAR MIND

The folks at Singapore Cocktail Bar IBHQ are hosting a weekly series of Instagram (IG) Live Conversations with local creative personalities to inspire us in these times. Past sessions have included Simone Heng, Professional Motivational Speaker and Technologist Willy Foo. IBHQ Founder Kamil Foltan also contributes to the Indigenous Bartender, a platform he created for bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts to share information about locally sourced ingredients and their creative uses. We particularly enjoyed his article about Jackfruit and its health benefits. Jackfruit Bellini, anyone? We’ll happily cheers to that.

These days, we also intentionally try to spend time away from our screens, opting for Podcasts instead. Priya Parker, author of the bestselling book “The Art of Gathering” recently launched a Podcast “Together Apart” with the New York Times and shares advice for helping people honour life through meaningful virtual gatherings from birthdays and birth to graduations.

FOR A HEALTHY BODY

These days it’s all about the SG Clean movement. But beyond keeping common surfaces clean and washing our hands for 20 seconds, have you heard of the Clean Beauty Movement? Fawn Labs is a clean beauty studio and trailblazer in Singapore known for its  personalized skincare workshops where you learn to craft your own bespoke luxury skincare using non-toxic ingredients, pure essential oils and natural botanicals.  During these extraordinary times, they are hosting a series of Interactive Webinars cheekily entitled Dirty Nights x Fawn Labs. Every Thursday, over the course of 3 weeks, co-founder of Fawn Labs Hann Chia, interacts with invited guests to explore Sustainability issues relating to Clean Beauty and Food Waste. We hear it may also include a Pantry Raid and a game of Dirty Cop so tune in to find out a little more!

We’re also getting in on the home workout movement and trying out some online yoga lessons. The combination of stretching and mindful movements helps keep us centered. If you’ve ever found Yoga intimidating, now’s a great time to try it out in the comfort and convenience of home. There are many options available for streaming. A few of our favourites include local studio Yoga Labs (drop-ins for $10 per session) delivered via Zoom or BullDog Online (Free trial for 30 days, USD 12.99 per month) that offers yoga classes mixed with calm yet invigorating playlists all accessed through a convenient app.

FOR A NURTURED SOUL

Nourish your souls with healthy and nutritious recipes to whip up at home. Even for a novice cook, Recipes by Super Farmers are fuss free, easy to follow and utilise simple pantry ingredients. We thoroughly enjoy Cynthea’s tutorials on preparing a Healing Tumeric-Ginger Paste, great in a hearty soup with local vegetables and chicken.  Super Farmers also offers an Urban Farming Kit, that contains all you need to start your own growing project of local vegetables like Kang Kong, Chye Sim and Chinese Kale at home.

Another of our team’s top online kitchen shows to cook along to is the Bon Appetit Test Kitchen Channel. When lockdown began, we were welcomed into their own home kitchens and introduced to their families as they continued to entertain us with cooking antics and their best kept kitchen secrets. By far our favourite is Molly Makes Sour Cream and Onion Biscuits. In this lighthearted video, Molly video calls her Dad as they cook the same recipe together. The candid bits of family love that shine through is heartwarming and reminds us that we can still connect meaningfully despite being thousands of miles apart!

We hope you enjoy our recommendations as you stay home and stay safe. When you are ready to meet again, TAB offers over 100 unique group event ideas to enjoy a shared experience. All experiences are free to book up to 6 months in advance with flexible booking policies.
