To end off 2018, we have rounded up a selection of our favourite new business hotels in Singapore. As the office winds down, the end of the year is the best time to get a head start on planning next year’s business trips and thinking of new accommodation options.

Singapore welcomed a bumper crop of new hotel brands and openings in 2018 with many long-established properties undergoing refurbishment. With an inventory of over 67,000 rooms, the city has still been able to maintain an average occupancy of 85% with an Average Room Rate (ARR) at S$219 as of 1H 2018 (Jan-Jun).

From luxury to boutique options, here’s our pick of the most notable business hotel openings in the past year:

NEW HOTEL OPENINGS IN 2018

1. Sofitel Singapore City Centre (Accor Hotels)

Sofitel Singapore City Centre is located within the tallest building in Singapore. At 290 metres and 64 storeys high, Tanjong Pagar Centre is a mixed development complex with direct access to the Tanjong Pagar MRT station. The hotel features 223 luxuriously appointed rooms with state-of-the-art technology and includes complimentary Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines and Lanvin amenities. This all-suite hotel boasts 157 spacious guest rooms that take in the unique architecture of the historic Capitol Building and Stamford House, one of Singapore’s earliest department stores . Why we like it? Kempinski Hotel’s first property in Singapore is full of rich history and located in the beautifully restored and iconic Capitol Building and Stamford House.  The building was originally designed by RAJ Bidwell who was also the architect of the Raffles Hotel.  With only 157 rooms, this intimate city hotel lends a unique feeling of home despite being in the heart of the action packed city. Kempinski Hotel also guarantees a 24-hour stay for all suite guests at the hotel, regardless of the time you check-in. Why we like it? Andaz is Hyatt Hotel’s first lifestyle brand that showcases  perspectives of the surrounding neighbourhood  its located in. These subtle touches are felt throughout and lend a warm feel  to a hotel that is both luxurious  and fun,. Guests check-in at the “living space” (lobby) and  can have complimentary drinks at the Sunrooms. The hotel’s rooftop bar, Stork, allows you to sip your drinks under teepees with the city skyline as a  backdrop.

4. JW Marriott South Beach (Marriott Hotels)

5. Six Senses Maxwell and Duxton (Six Senses Group)

Six Senses Duxton offers a Tibetan Singing Bowl Cleansing Ritual right in their own lobby that will leave guests feeling refreshed and revitalised.  Both hotels are located in Chinatown, with bustling nightlife and trendy restaurant options at your doorstep.

6. InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay (Intercontinental Hotel Group)

1.Grand Park City Hall (Park Hotel Group)

The crown jewel of the Singapore based Park Hotel Group underwent a complete transformation in 2018. Located in the Civic district, the refurbishment was part of the upcoming mixed-use lifestyle precinct of City Hall Square. The overhaul saw a redesign of its 343 guest rooms, a new gym, swimming pool and club lounge. Incorporating heritage-influenced art and design, these touches can be seen and felt throughout, including Peranakan-patterned floor tiles and black and white artwork featuring Singapore’s cityscape.

Why we like it even more? The complete overhaul of the hotel brings it up to date in design and more importantly with the latest in-room technology. Guests can download the GPCH app and gain instant control of their room allowing for self check-in, mobile key access and in-room control of air-conditioning and lighting. No more fussing around with hotel key cards or countless light switches. The superb location places the hotel in the heart of the CBD with Raffles City Convention Centre and Suntec Convention Centre accessible via a quick commute.

2. Conrad Centennial Singapore (Hilton Hotels)

The luxury hotel under the Hilton Brand completed its rejuvenation project in 2018 which comprised a major redesign of its 511 guest rooms, executive club lounge and a new meeting facility. The rooms were updated with a contemporary design, incorporating natural materials throughout.  Walls are also adorned with new 55-inch HDTVs and bathrooms continue to feature double vanities with separate bathtub and shower.

Why we like it even more? Conrad features some of the largest lead-in category rooms in the city at 40-43sqm and is a favourite for business travellers and convention visitors to Suntec. This much needed revamp ensures that the hotel stays up to date with a fresh and contemporary design and understated luxury. The new Pavilion event space that accommodates up to 160 guests next to the pool also adds a new venue for meeting, events and functions with all round glass and a video wall.

3. Swissotel the Stamford Singapore (Accor Hotels)

Swissotel the Stamford embarked on an extensive phased renovation programme that began in 2017 and was just completed in December 2018. Located within the Raffles City Complex with the adjoining Fairmont Hotel Singapore and Raffles City Convention Centre, the hotel is one of the most well connected in the city.  All 1,251 guests rooms were renovated and updated with a contemporary design and new practical features. Fitness enthusiasts will particularly enjoy staying in the Vitality Room that incorporates an experience shower and bath, an in-room yoga station and wellness wall for cable pulls and more. The mini bar is also stocked with nutritious juices and snacks. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine and a spacious work area.  The renovation also unveiled a new contemporary lobby and self check-in experience. New F&B  concepts that include all-day casual dining at Stamford Brasserie and contemporary grill with a view at SKAI join the award winning Michelin-starred JAAN.

Why we like it even more? Still holding onto the title of Southeast Asia’s tallest hotel complex, the Swissotel remains an iconic destination.  It has so much to offer with sleek rooms, exciting new dining offerings and amenities that promote greater wellness.  All rooms feature a private balcony and large workspace areas perfect for meeting preparation. The CBD is just one MRT station away, making it extremely accessible for business travellers.
